Alice Bertrand
A retired mother of five living kids and eight grandchildren currently serving as Board President.
Through the loss of her son DeUndrea, she was inspired to help other children/youth.
During this time the housing market had begun to spiral downward.
In many markets, tenants with vouchers or certificates were unable to find decent housing due to
lack of available units, discrimination, moving costs, access to transportation, and high rental cost
This is when she began her journey on housing issues in 1993.
She believed tenants need to speak for themselves to make their voices fully heard
in Washington. Alice is an advocate for tenant’s rights and currently serves as Board President
at the Texas Tenants’ Union, a nonprofit that has been advocating for tenants right for over thirty years.
Alice has discovered that this journey is a path that involves the willingness of others to reach out to
one another and she is inspired to do the same.
She is a servant and member of the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church
located in Joppa Texas where she is a member of the Finance Committee and Mission President.
Currently serves on:
Board President for Positive Reflection Ministries
Community Advisory Committee/Panel for Patient Centered
Outcomes Research UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Mission President for God's Grace Fellowship of Churches
Former member of Dallas County Public Schools - Community Advisory Committee
Former Board Member of Mission East Dallas.
Former Board President for The National Alliance of HUD Tenants’
Volunteers In-Service to America (VISTA) two terms
So many times, we want to give more to those that need help.
We might think that giving only comes in the form of cash donations.
This is not true; you can give by helping others.
Matthew 25:35-40 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a
stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison
and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,
or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you,’ And the King will or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?
answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
